As a Customer Service Agent you'll be required to play an important role by solely being yourself, but this has to be Someone with not just basic but Good Communication Skills, as you play the link between the brand that you work for & the customer, you are representing what the brand offers the consumer.
In the retail industry you'll be encountering a number of people daily & in this Entry Level position as the Service Agent you are the direct customer Assistance because you are required to do the welcoming of customers & guiding them to certain departments
You are required to provide the customer with a good shopping experience, offering them promotions, guiding them & directing them to certain aisles
Any Query/Questions are all directed to you & in any conflicts you are to stop them in a professional manner & you need to have good patience in this position.
Key Responsibilities
-Customer Engagement: You Greet & Guide the customers to the aisles & department that they are going to, if the customer is looking for something specific you position is to help them.
-Product Knowledge: Always know the stores products & keep up to date with all the products, you present to the customers promotions that the store is currently running as well as loyalty program benefits
-Merchandising: Making sure that all the products are visible and well organized, ensuring that you restock all the shelves.
-Loss Prevention: You are always on high alert & cautious about watching out for any "crime/theft" making sure that there is less likely of any suspicious activities
-Complaint Resolution: Prevent any sort of squabbles that might occur in a professional manner, you can keep a level head during any customer frustrations & ensure that any issues are all sorted out
-Transaction Processing: Processing various payment types (cards, cash, mobile pay), You can operate the Point-of-Sale system to scan items that are being purchased.
Requirements & Qualifications
Should have grade 12-Matric (grade 9 minimum) this is important as most retailers mostly employ jobseekers with English & Mathematics, And for the people with qualifications you'll be required to provide NQF Level 1/NQF Level 3 when Applying which should be advantageous.
As an Entry Level position this means no prior experience is required, which is way different Intermediate position which would want the candidate to have at least 1-2 years of retail experience.
Your required to have some technical skills in cases where you'll have to use the Point of Sale system when you have to assist the customers scan their products, being knowledgeable with how to use Digital payments, candidates with such skills are essential to retailers & are really useful for such companies.
